A Blue Ridge Cabin is an authentic log cabin located near Meadows of Dan, in the Blue Ridge Highlands of Virginia. For rate and availability information, click here. You can walk or drive a short distance from the cabin to the Cockram Mill Complex, where the Crooked Road Cafe is located. Grab lunch and a cold drink at the cafe, and sit on the back deck overlooking the river.
Hop on and off the Blue Ridge Parkway at the village of Meadows of Dan, less than two miles from the cabin. There are two excellent local wineries nearby, including Chateau Morrisette and Villa Appalaccia. Each are an easy drive (less than 15 minutes) from the cabin. Just a little longer drive brings you to local meaderies and cideries. FloydFest, held annually near Villa Appalaccia, is an event not to be missed. In the town of Floyd, visit Buffalo Mountain Brewery and McDaniels Tavern, the Five Mile Mountain Distillery, Dogtown Roadhouse, country stores, and several restaurant options.
Mabry Mill is two miles from the cabin, and is one of the most photographed landmarks on the BPR. During season you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner from their restaurant. The mill still grinds flour more than a century since its original construction. You can see the Matthews Cabin, blacksmith shop and interpretive area, view demonstrations on blacksmithing, carving, spinning, basket making and other traditional Appalachian crafts, or listen to live old-time music during season. Lovers Leap is on J.E.B. Stuart Highway, only a couple of miles away, and has some of the most picturesque views around. There are several antique shops, country stores, and farmers markets in the area.
There's plenty to do outdoors, including hiking the trails at Rocky Knob/Rock Castle Gorge, Fairy Stone State Park, and climbing Buffalo Mountain. The Rocky Knob recreation area covers more than 4000 acres. Four trails offer a variety of scenic and historical wonders. The Rock Castle Gorge trail descends over three miles into the back-country camping area in the bottom of the gorge. The strenuous and rugged nature of the trail reveal part of the reason this pathway was given National Recreational Trail status. Fish for trout, small mouth bass, and panfish at locations including the Dan River (near the cabin), at Fairy Stone State Park, or on the Little River which is an easy drive from the cabin.
A Blue Ridge Cabin is an easy drive to Martinsville or Bristol to catch exciting NASCAR races. Stuart, VA is a beautiful drive less than 20 minutes from the cabin, while Galax, Christiansburg, and Martinsville are just a few minutes further. Come relax today!
